The us reel supercaster is the first baitcaster without a friction and angle causing worm gear or eyelet line guid and the spool feeds line from below instead of above. I tested this reel at a recent show and the feel is quite simply something you havent felt before on a cast.

Watch the video and find out.

I tried to look at these reels at BPS about a month ago and they said they no longer carry the US reel brand.  If anybody gets to fish with one of these, I would be interested in hearing how they work out on the water

BrokenPaddle,
It might be more accurate to say they have the first reel with a level wind that doesn't have the worm gear or eyelet.  There are plenty of reels out there without level winds that have these same advantages when casting.  You just have to get into the habit of using your thumb to spread the line during your retrieve.  Avet reels spring to mind immediately.

That said, as a mechanical engineer, I agree that U.S. Reels solution to making a level wind which is nearly frictionless during a cast is brilliant.  It is so simple that after you see it you ask yourself, "Why didn't I think of that?"  That is the hallmark of great engineering.

Hopefully, they have executed their reels so they can compete with the big boys as far as quality goes.  Too many people with great ideas fall for the false trap of trying to cash in quickly by making poorly executed cheap junk.  I'd love to get my hands on one of these reels to see if they will hold up in saltwater like an Avet, Shimano Calcutta, or one of my Daiwa Millionaire's.  If Bass Pro doesn't have them, who does?

I picked up one of these reels last fall but haven't had time to fish it extensively, but to the extent I have used it, it is really great. I'm eagerly waiting the upcoming season to put it through its paces.

Tochterman's in Baltimore stocks these reels.  The staff at Tochterman's are very knowledgable and helpful on the gear they inventory. However, if you want to get really detailed information on rods and reels, visit the store on Saturday when a guy named Gene Kane is on deck. He's a great guy and will spend the time detailing the performance and technology behind these reels.
